What better to soak up the alcohol on a ‘wet’ weekend away than some traditional German food.
It may not be the foremost city you think of when plotting your travels, but plenty of people have fallen in love with Cologne.
It dates back to around 1200, its exterior is seven feet of gilded silver and jewels and it is adorned by images of Old Testament prophets and the 12 apostles.
So I have made it safely home after my visit to Germany’s fourth biggest city.

If Cologne has a heart and soul it can be found in Die Alstadt – the Old Town.
The journey, so they say, is the reward. While there is doubtless some truth in the ancient wisdom, I certainly hoping Cologne will have more to offer than simply a train ride and a Flybe flight.
